Wat Phra Yai Temple – Sight Seeing and Culture

If you’re staying at Royal Thai Residence you might be interested in a visit to the Wat Phra Yai Temple, or “Big Buddha Hill” only a few kilometers away. We recommend visiting in the early morning or at sundown for the best views.

The Big Buddha is 18 meters tall and sits atop the highest point in Pattaya, overlooking Jomtien Beach. The temple is a favorite sight-seeing spot for tourists and locals come to give reverence as well. This Buddha statue is the biggest in the region and is truly amazing to behold, but don’t miss out on looking around the temple grounds for the smaller statues and intricate designs of the temple. The Naga staircase is a favorite photo spot.

If you are looking for a beautiful morning run or walk, check out the path just at the base of the turn-off from the road for a pedestrian only path, about 1 km loop.

Just across from the road on Pratumnak Hill is another breath-taking overlook and smaller temple. Looking out over the water is truly beautiful both day and night.

The hill is accessible by foot, motorbike taxi, and car. Ask at the front desk if you need directions, we’re more than happy to help you make the most of your visit!
